Ballymena author releases fifth book

Victorian Gothic horror novella explores the dark side of the 19th century

Ballymena author, Jonathan Traynor officially launches his fifth book, Earl Black and the Daemons of the British Empire, at Strange and Unusual Celebration of Science Fiction and horror at Braid Arts Centre on April 18th.

The novella is based on the Victorian Penny Dreadful books, but with a cast of daemons, faeries and other supernatural creatures.

Jonathan is a multi-genre writer, whose previous work includes a novel about zombies in County Antrim, and a short story collection.

“I always want to try new ideas, rather than stick with one genre,” he explained. “I stumbled across a collection of Victorian Penny Dreadfuls and the idea was to introduce a supernatural element and a tragic hero, who is not what he appears to be at first sparked the concept.”

Available on Amazon and in person on April 18th at Braid Arts Centre, Jonathan will be signing copies on the day.

“There was no better opportunity to launch the book than at the Strange and Unusual Celebration of Science Fiction and Horror,” he said. “Earl Black and the Daemons of the British Empire is a gothic horror tale. In addition, many of my previous books deal in science fiction and horror making it a perfect setting to showcase my work.”

Jonathan’s previous work includes a dystopian novella about the future of live music, called Chords of Chaos, and Race the Undead about a zombie apocalypse with the action based in County Antrim.

Copies of Earl Black and the Daemons of the British Empire is available as an ebook or paperback here.
